A handheld reader.
A pack of glucose sensors to be applied on the back of the upper arm.
How does it work?
APPLY THE SENSOR
The FreeStyle Libre sensor is applied to the back of the upper arm with a simple, disposable device called an applicator. When the sensor is applied, a thin, flexible, and sterile fiber is inserted just under the skin. It is held in place with a small adhesive pad.
SCAN SENSOR
To obtain a glucose reading, simply perform a quick, painless 1-second scan of the Reader or FreeStyle LibreLink app over the sensor. This scan gives you more information than monitoring with blood glucose test strips, without the need for routine finger pricks. The FreeStyle Libre system also offers LibreView, to generate concise reports to assist with the analysis of glucose data.
GET READING
Each scan of the Sensor gives a current glucose reading, the last 8-hours of glucose history, and a trend arrow showing if glucose is going up, down, or changing slowly. The reader can scan through clothing.
THE SENSOR KIT / HOW TO APPLY SENSOR
Before you use the parts in your sensor kit, you should make sure that both the sensor pack and the sensor applicator are part of the same set. Both should come with the same codes and only be used with each other, otherwise, the readings might be wrong.
The FreeStyle Sensor Pack
The sensor, which is stored in the sensor pack, has a small, flexible tip designed to be inserted just under the skin on the back of your arm. This detects the levels of blood glucose in your body and helps you and your healthcare team to monitor any changes.
The sensor pack is designed for single use. The sensor is the part of your device that needs to be changed every 14 days. Intense movement or sweat can sometimes dislodge the sensor, so if you’re doing exercise or other strenuous activity, make sure your sensor hasn’t become loose. If it has, you may need to replace it.
Some people are sensitive to the adhesive that sticks the sensor to your skin. If you find the skin around your sensor has become irritated, remove the device immediately, and consult your healthcare professional.
The FreeStyle Sensor Applicator
This part of your sensor kit helps you to apply the sensor properly. By inserting it into the sensor pack to apply the sensor to your skin, the process remains sterile and ensures that the sensor is placed properly.
How do you apply the sensor?
1. To apply the sensor, wash the application site with plain soap and water. Dry the area and clean with an alcohol wipe.
2. Peel the lid off completely from the sensor pack. Unscrew the cap from the sensor applicator and line them up using the dark marks.
3. Using a hard surface, apply pressure on the sensor applicator until it comes to a stop. Lift the sensor applicator out of the sensor pack, ready to apply the sensor.
4. Place the applicator over the area where you’re going to apply the sensor and push down firmly.
5. Pull the applicator away gently, making sure the sensor is fully secure.
How do you use it?
Use your smartphone or handheld reader to scan the glucose sensor with a painless,1 one-second scan to replace fingersticks.
